Have You Declared Your Life Purpose Yet?

Purpose, Mission Statement, Long Term Goal, Life’s Work, True Passion.

This is all just semantics and vocabulary to help us understand What and Why we do the things we do. As human beings we seem to need a higher purpose for doing things, a reason that transcends just a daily grind.

Do you have a purpose? Have you decided on a purpose but haven’t yet developed an action plan to execute it? Here is a story about a person who had not discovered his purpose yet.

The people who are most successful at making their goals come true are the people who know who they are and what they want. They choose goals that help them fulfill their purpose in life.

To make the most of your astonishing power to make your goals come true, the first thing you need to do is to choose a purpose, and then choose goals that will help you fulfill that purpose.

Earl Nightingale, one of the great modern philosophers of human achievement, used to distinguish between river people and goal people. He said that river people are those lucky few who seem to be born for a particular purpose.

From the time they are children they seem to know what they are meant to do with their lives. They find themselves in the middle of a great river of interest, and they flow with that river all the days of their lives.

Then there are the rest of us. We are the goal people or, the wish people. We aren’t born with an all-consuming interest. We aren’t born into our purpose in life. Instead, we have to define it.

We have to define it. Think about that last paragraph for a minute. Then continue on. A person’s story might go like this . . .

—————————————————-

For years, I wondered what I was supposed to do with my life. I envied people who knew what they were about, people who seemed to have been born with a sense of mission, people who were fortunate enough to pursue their river of interest.

If only that could happen to me, I used to tell myself. And then one afternoon, it did.

I was walking down the street wondering what I was going to do with my life. Suddenly, I had the answer. As clearly as if it had been engraved on my forehead, I understood that my great purpose in life was to define my purpose.

That was my mission. That was my river of interest.

And it always had been. For years, I had been pursuing the same mission—to define my purpose.

But I had never realized it and had never accepted it as a valid purpose. Once I did, I understood with absolute certainty what it was that I was supposed to do with my life: I was put on earth to define my purpose.

For the first time in my life, I felt like a river person. I knew what my life was about. I had a reason to get out of bed in the morning. My days were filled with meaning because I had suddenly filled them with meaningful work.

I had something vitally important to accomplish—a purpose—and I couldn’t wait to get started on it each day.

What I learned that day is that it doesn’t matter what purpose you have. It simply matters that you have one. And if you don’t have one, then your purpose is to define one. That becomes your river of interest.

Once you adopt this frame of mind, you will find that everything else falls into place. You will embark on a journey of self-discovery. You will open yourself to new thoughts, activities, and interests that you would never have considered before.

Everything you do from that moment on will become part of your newly discovered purpose, your newly discovered mission in life: to define—to invent—yourself.

—————————————————-

To find your purpose, start with what interests you. It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t have an interest in something. But there are many people who have never allowed themselves to acknowledge their interests.

They feel that the things they like to do are unimportant in the great scheme of things, so they look elsewhere for meaning and purpose. Meanwhile, what they are looking for is right under their nose.

Finding your purpose in life doesn’t have to be some complicated quest. Instead of asking, “What do I want to do with my life?” why not make it easy on yourself? Instead, ask “What do I enjoy doing?” Then listen to all of your answers. Write them on paper. Write everything on paper—even the trivial or silly things.

If what interests you doesn’t seem important enough to put on paper, that’s only because you’re trying to judge your interests instead of trying to live them. Try living the, instead, and you’ll take your first great step toward making your wishes come true.

If you enjoy doing something do it. Do you like to listen to music, go to the movies, read, watch TV, cook, fix cars, clean house, watch birds, teach, build furniture, surf the Net, or build sand castles?

As long as your activity or hobby is not self-destructive (like substance abuse), hurtful to someone else, or damaging to the environment, why not allow yourself to enjoy it for all it’s worth?

If you enjoy something, pursue it. You don’t have to make it your official purpose in life—but what if you did? What if you decided to spend your life doing what you enjoy? That’s what river people do. Sometimes they’re called eccentric, or absentminded, or obsessive. Sometimes they’re called geniuses.

But whatever they’re called, all they do is flow with their river of interest and allow themselves to enjoy the journey. They don’t care if what they’re doing is important to the rest of the world; they care if it’s important to them.

They aren’t out to save mankind; they’re out to save themselves—from a life without joy or meaning.

If you want to maximize your contribution to society, you owe it to them, and to yourself, to follow your dreams, to follow your purpose, to follow your bliss.

Do what you think you’re meant to do, not what you think you’re supposed to do. If you’re worried that you’ll never amount to much unless your purpose is “worthy,” don’t waste your time. You already amount to something.

Your achievements in life are not the source of your worth as a human being; they are the result of it. Self-worth comes before purpose, not the other way around.

Once you accept your value as a person, once you accept that you already amount to something, then you free yourself to make the most of your life. You free yourself to define your purpose. And that’s where the fun begins.

Finding your purpose is a matter of asking yourself what you enjoy doing, and then doing it. That’s what river people do. They aren’t making a huge sacrifice to follow their dreams. They don’t have to practice iron-willed self-discipline to keep themselves on track.

They simply do what they enjoy doing. That’s their payoff. That’s why they do it. Their achievements are simply a byproduct of that enjoyment.

Once you define a purpose—even if that purpose is simply to define a purpose—the rest will take care of itself. Your life will take on a focus and intensity of which you’ve never dreamed.

One by one you will begin to make your wishes come true. Day by day you’ll find yourself growing, contributing more to those around you, and making the most of yourself as a human being. That is the noblest purpose of all.

If you haven’t yet declared your purpose in life at least temporarily, and are not actively seeking to express yourself through it, then you are missing out on some of the finest days of your life. See you next time.

Home Business Ideas

There are so many home business opportunities and internet business ideas, that it can be a little overwhelming to figure out where you should start. We talked about a few of the different business models – from ecommerce sites that use wholesale dropshipping, to offering a service or starting your own blog.

You can make money online in a variety of ways. Just a few examples include: sell your own product, offer services, sell advertising on your website or blog, or promote other people’s products and/or services.

That last option is called Affiliate Marketing. It’s basically commission-based sales, and I compare it to the offline model of selling Kirby vacuum cleaners. When you make sales, you make money. You can sign up as an affiliate for a company and they will give you an Affiliate Link. You promote that link, and anyone that goes through your link to make a purchase will be tracked – resulting in a commission to you for that sale.

This is the internet business model that I focused on during our conversation over lunch yesterday. I actually use a variety of internet business models to make money online myself, but Affiliate Marketing seemed to be a perfect match for my new friends.

Some business models are active, while others are more passive. An active business model requires a more active role on your part. A membership site for example is high maintenance. If you offer services, then you need to interact with clients and take phone calls on a regular basis. I prefer passive income models, which allow you more freedom and flexibility.

That’s not to say that active business models cant be incredibly profitable and successful, just that something more passive seemed like a good fit once I got to know her a bit.

To clarify, when I say passive I dont mean that you wont have to work at it. I think we’ve all kind of figured out by now that “get rich quick schemes” dont really work. And we were discussing real, legitimate ways to make consistent income online. Not spotty one-off ways to make a few bucks here and there.

We discussed the realistic investment of time and money, and I confessed that I put a lot of time in upfront to get each of my internet business models up and running (some more than others). I explained that you could invest money to get sales rolling in quicker, or you could invest time (up to 6-12 months even) to get your sales up to a good level on a consistent basis. You’ll make money along the way of course, but geting that consistent income is the key.

Going that route, you can get started for less than $10. Yes, literally.

——————————————-

I hope I didn’t give all the good parts away. Your business could literally take off or it could even start you in a whole new completely different direction that takes you right into profits immediately. See you next time.

Mentally Fit – 10 Fundamentals Of Staying Happy And Healthy

Everyone has good and bad days. But it’s the people who let the bad days get them down constantly that pay a deeper price.

Having a healthy outlook on life is the great way to help your self in the long term, but it takes more than that to keep you mentally sound.

You need to take care of your body and soul, learn to deal with stress and depression, and learn to love yourself, to change your outlook on life.

Easier said then done of course, especially for those with a general disposition for always looking for problems in everything. But it is not an impossible task.

Here are some simple tips for keeping yourself mentally well:

1.    Eat Right:
Your body needs to be functioning at its best for you to feel your best. A healthy diet can help lead the way to a healthy outlook on life.

2.    Keep Fit:
A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. If you are exercising and eating right, you are way ahead of the game.

3.    Build Your Confidence:
Confidence in your self is so important. If you believe in yourself and believe in your ability to do good things, you can do anything.

4.    Make Time For Family And Friends:
Family and friends are so important for your mental health. They remind you how much you are loved, that you are needed and that there is a place for you in their hearts.

5.    Give Support:
You know what it’s like to be down and out. If you know someone who is having a tough time of things, be there for them. Lend an ear and help them get through the rough times that are causing them grief. They’ll be there for you when you need them.

6.    Create A Budget:
Is there anything more stressful than dealing with your finances and lack there of? Creating a budget and following it can take a lot of that stress from you life.

7.    Volunteer:
Volunteering can help you feel so good about yourself. It can make you feel like you are making a difference in people’s lives and that you are contributing positively to society.

8.    Manage Stress:
Learning to manage stress can go a long way in sustaining your mental health. Stress is unavoidable, letting it bring you down is.

9.    Strength In Numbers:
Don’t stew in your grief. Let your friends and family know when you are going through troubled times, so they can help you get out of your funk and back to being healthy and well.

10.    Identify When You Are Troubled:
Learn to recognize when your mental health might be slipping and look for support.

11.    Learn To Love Yourself:
If you can accept your flaws and appreciate all the good that you have to offer, you can learn to be at peace with yourself.

Being mentally healthy is just as important and being physically healthy. You need a combination of both to be at your best every day.

The Science Of Setting Goals – The Formulas Work, But Do You Work Them?

Why Haven’t You Reached Your Goals? (Guest Article By Mike Martinez)

Setting and achieving goals is a science. By that I mean that achieving a certain outcome, any outcome, has a specific formula behind it. It’s the law of cause and effect in action. Anything can be achieved if the proper steps are taken. And the kicker is that many times we are fully aware of the necessary steps, yet we don’t take them.

I am fortunate enough to belong to a personal development coaching group. In a recent discussion with the group I became aware of one key principle that has dramatically altered my own power to achieve.

It came in the form of a simple sentence. What was it that changed my results instantly? During this specific coaching session I heard, “You must get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” This simple sentence carries with it a lot of weight.

You see, each one of us who are reaching for more, reaching outside the box, we already know what needs to be done in order to get our goals. In the rare instance when we are not completely satisfied with all the steps we need to take, we do know where we need to go to get that information.

But for the sake of argument, lets work with the premise that we are fully aware of what is needed to achieve a certain outcome. We set the goal. We are clear as to what we want. We know the specific steps we need to take. We set the deadline. Yet we derail our own efforts. Why is that?

The answer is in the fear of being uncomfortable. In order to get things we don’t already have, we need to do things we haven’t yet done. In that process, in the doing of things we haven’t done is where that uncomfortable feeling hits us.

When that happens we have two directions in which we may go. You can move forward and exercise your will, withstanding the feelings of discomfort. Or you can abandon the action, thereby stepping back into your comfort zone.

All our goals are to be found outside our current comfort zone.

In fact, if your goal has no uncomfortable feelings, chances are you are not reaching out far enough. The key to realize here is that those uncomfortable feels are only temporary. In some cases they may be quick flashes of distress. Eventually something will hit you and you will come to realize the joy in the new action.

No one knows how long it will take. Could be a minute. Could be a year. How long it takes is greatly dependent on your own mental attitude. However the one thing we do know is that with each goal comes a point of uncertainty, of distress. Your ability to push through, to continue on beyond those feelings is the deciding factor on whether you reach your goal or you stay where you are.

The paradox is that your current comfort zone is not all that comfortable.

If it were you wouldn’t be looking to get more. So in reality, you are going to face discomfort either way. Your choice is whether you want to be uncomfortable in your present situation or if you are willing to feel a temporary discomfort to get to your goal.

Too many people live by the expression, “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.” These are the people that live their lives avoiding uncertainty. They may be uncomfortable but at least they know what that feeling is like. They are afraid to venture on and experience more of life if they have to put themselves in any form of distress.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between those who live their entire life in a meager existence and those who reach the summit. Commit yourself to reaching your summit. Commit to transform distress into success. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable and your results in life will exceed your wildest imagination.
