Self Management – How To Get More Done

This is a reprint of an earlier article that has timeless information for me and I hope for you too. These are some of the ways I get results in my life and I wanted to share them with you again. Remember repetition is important and I trust that you will get something different this time around.

I know that when I reread books, I am not the same person or in the same mindset as when I read it the first time around, and something usually jumps right out at me that I swear wasn’t there the first time. Here’s hoping that is true for you also.

How To Get More Done
By Al Smith

I was looking through my journal and came across an entry I made quite some time ago. At the time I was feeling as if my goals were getting away from me. I just didn’t seem to be getting the results I wanted, and quite frankly I was feeling down about it.

I decided to ask myself some questions about why I wasn’t getting the job done, and what I could change. Of course this led to some good quality answers that I decided to proceed with from that day. I needed to create some new habits.

Any one of these strategies will help you get more done each day you use it. The key is to use it. Practice more of them and you will find that rarely will you not feel like doing what you need to do. You will create a new habit of getting it all done regularly, and loving every moment of it. Your goal setting program will exponentially produce maximum results.

In fact you will become unstoppable! I started to get real results as soon as I began implementing just the first one. I am not perfect and sometimes catch myself resorting to old habits. But I catch myself more often these days and much sooner than I used to.

By the way, these are not new principles, I just hadn’t been putting them into action in my life. Like everything else, I am just reciting old info as new again. Here is what I wrote down that I was going to start that night and maintain.

1. Set my intention and expectations each and every day. Decide in advance that I am going to max out my day, I am going to fill it with life, passion and joy.

2. Write out my goals first thing each morning so that I start my day positively and enthusiastically knowing what I am doing and why I am doing it.

3. Make a list of 3-5 of the most important things to complete in the time I have. Prioritize them and begin with #1. Only fight the fires and urgencies that must be fought, and return to priority immediately.

4. Expect to be high energy. Act high energy, Eat for high energy. Stay oxygenated and hydrated throughout the day.

5. Exercise 20-30 minutes. Make it extreme high priority and get it done no matter what.

6. Plan rewards into my day. Laugh a lot and be playful. Enjoy the day. After all, it’s my life! I am after anything that drives me forward. Think about it.

7. Watch my vocabulary and self talk. Affirm to myself that I need a completion today. Tomorrow is unacceptable, I want to finish it today!

8. Go to sleep assured that I have done all I could possibly have done and I will start out fresh again in the morning.

Try any one of these and notice the difference. Try more of them and watch how much more you get done while enjoying the process. I know they work, just as the experts said they would. After all that is where I first got them, I am just passing them on.

My Purpose Is . . . (Fill in the Blank)

The Infinite Power Of Purpose – Are You Using It?

Well, 2008 is well underway.

Have you set out what you are going to do this year? What you want to attain in these next twelve months, scratch that, these next eleven months and a few days?

Have you decided how much you are willing to sacrifice to achieve your dreams?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? I have been asking myself that a lot lately. I am starting to feel too comfortable . . .

So I have made some new commitments for myself. (translate as BIGGER Goals)

It is very important that you identify your willingness and commitment to reach your dream before starting to pursue it. It is critical to your goal setting program. Decide right now how much you are willing to give in order to get your goals.

Vince Lombardi, one of the greatest football coaches of all time, once said, “The difference between a successful person and others is usually not a lack of strength, nor a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will!”

Oh, hold on a minute. Let’s back up a bit.

First let me ask, “Do you have a Dream?” Is there purpose in your life? Have you made any real commitments?

When things get tougher, and they will, the thing that most distinguishes a successful person than others is the level of ‘WILL’ he has.

That determination to follow through with your proactive creation that was decided in advance, and does not succumb to how you feel at any given moment.

Your will is reinforced by the power of your purpose. Your purpose unleashes your passion for living and creates meaning for your life.

Are you living a meaningful life? If you are, then, “That’s AWESOME!” If not, why not? And . . . why not start now?

When you are passionate about something big, you have the will to overcome the difficulties that confront you.

If you are missing a clear purpose in life, then your will won’t be by your side when you need it. If you are living a dull life, your will won’t be of much benefit to you. Your power will be weak.

You need a strong will to blast past some of life’s challenges, and to gain that will you must follow your own unique path and do what you’re meant to do in this life. Then your power will be increased exponentially.

The more you are committed, the more you are determined, and the more you are persistent, the more you will succeed. Purpose is necessary to develop this power.

Before we achieve massive success, we usually pass by moments of desperation and failure. Those who rise again, those who have the will, and those who persist no matter what, are the clear winners.

We all face obstacles in our journey to achieve something that is great and worthy. The true winners are those who have the will to overcome those obstacles and are most passionate about their dreams.

Remember then what Vince Lombardi said, the difference between a successful person and others is usually not a lack of strength, nor a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will!

Set out your purpose in big bold lettering and bond with it! Feel the power, allow it to strengthen your resolve and take some action right now.

It’s a New Year, let’s make 2008 the year we bust loose! Go for it!

I certainly am . . .
